Cheer Each Other On

Skit-with-a-Song for Kids Item #6000

Cheer Each Other On  is a puppet show skit-with-a-song that elementary age children can perform during worship.

When an encouraging thought comes to mind, say it!  Puppets show us that we have lots of opportunities to cheer each other on with our words.  Pom poms, flowers and cards work, too!

Theme:  Encouragement (I Thessalonians 5:11:  Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. & Philippians 4:13:  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.)
Characters:  1 Narrator & speaking parts for 4 puppets (or 4 child actors if you prefer to do a skit instead of a puppet show)
Song:  Do-Wacka-Do All Things
– based on Philippians 4:13, this up-tempo song includes claps & jumps AND stand/sit options.
Performance time:  5 minutes

Here’s a Cheer Each Other On script excerpt:
(Narrator stands at one end of puppet curtain & puppets peek shyly over top and sides of curtain)
Narrator:  We’re ready to start, but it looks like our puppets need a little encouragement.  Let’s clap and cheer them on! (audience claps and puppets appear)
Puppet #3:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #4:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #3:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #4:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #1:  (to narrator)  That was encouraging.
Puppet #3:  (to other puppets)  They clapped for us and we haven’t even done anything yet!
Puppet #3:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #4:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #3:  (bows)  Thank you.
Puppet #4:  (bows)  Thank you.
Narrator: (to the puppets) Isn’t it amazing that a little thing like clapping, was all it took to encourage you?  I Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”  That’s why you’re here – to teach the rest of us how to encourage and cheer each other on!
(Puppets #2-#4 exit to get pom poms, then return holding pom poms in mouth)
Puppet #1:  No problem.  Everyone can be a cheerleader.
Puppet #2:  (with excitement) Rah!
Puppet #3:  (with excitement) Rah!
Puppet #4:  (with excitement) Rah!
Puppets #1 – #4:  (with excitement) Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah!
Narrator: (to puppets) That’s a great start.  But it’s not always about pom poms.  Sometimes we cheer someone on by some little thing we do for them.  Why don’t you show us a few little things we can do to cheer each other on.
All Puppets:  (together)  We can do this, yes we can.  We can do this, yes we can.  We can do this, yes we can!
(full skit and song are approximately 5 minutes long)
